The return of Drogba 0

Drogba PenoAresenal FC faced off against Turkish team Galatasaray S.K.  on August 4th in the final and decisive match of the preseason Emirates Cup tournament. The match was definitely a crowd pleaser, as both teams battled to become victorious.

Both teams shared a fair bit of possession, Arsenal creating more chances in the final 3rd testing out Galatasary keeper Muslera, who was up for the challenge, looking alert and determined to not let anything get passed him. Sanogo had a couple hopeful moments, makings some good runs, showing his dribbling skills, but his shooting boots were not on as he kicked the ball straight to the goalkeeper.

Theo Walcott received a beautiful ball from Aaron Ramsey on the top of the 18, but Muslera was quick off his line to throw off Walcott just enough to make his chip go wide of the post. Muslera was looking unbeatable at this moment, until, Mikel Arteta passed the ball out to teammate Theo Walcott out on the left, who whipped the ball in for his teammates, but nobody got a touch on the ball and this unexpected occurrence caught Muslera off-guard, and the ball made its way through everyone into the net making it 1-0 at the 38′ minute mark.

The second half was a lot of posession in the middle of the field and little chances in the final third, until Galatasaray took their game up a notch, namely Wesley Sneijder and Didier Drogba. Drogba showed why he is still one of the best forwards in the world teasing and tormenting the Arsenal defense turning them inside out, and Sneijder took a hold of the game stringing passed together creating chances for his teammates to score.

Then Sneijder played a left footed pass aimed at Drogba in the box but the Ivorian went down from a push in the back from Aresenal defender Mikel, and the ref was quick to point to the penalty spot. Drogba steps up looking cool as a cucumber, and he slotted the ball past Szczęsny making it 1-1 in the 79′ minute. It took less than 10 minutes for the duo to make something happen again, Sneijder cut in from the left and found Drogba with a fine pass, then Drogba had the deft touch with his right back on to his left sending Mertesaker the wrong way and then he unleashed a left footed shot past Szczęsny once again making the score 2-1 in the 88′ minute.  Galatasarary defended well for the final few minutes and got themselves a well earned victory, and with this win it crowned them Emirates Cup Champions.
